Today we will put a light on a natural sight of a state in northeastern India – Meghalaya. It is one of the naturally pleasant states in India. In the south of Garo Hills in Meghalaya, there is a mesmerizing place named Balpakram National Park. The park is renowned for its forest-covered canyon-cum-gorge and is home to a variety of rare exotic plant and animal life as well as marine fossils. The park offers sheer biodiversity. It has also some mythological values. The Garo Myth hints that this is a place of eternal death which reasons to call the place an 'empire of perpetual winds' and 'land of spirits'. As we mentioned earlier that this place covers immense biodiversity, a huge living incident of wildlife is present there. Tourists from all over the world come to visit this place to witness the sight of endangered animals like -red panda, wild water buffalo, Indian bison, golden cat, slow lorries, and many other animals. Being an epicenter of diversity this place is very famous for its rich flora and fauna.


This big and deep jungle having scenic beauty of botany will leave an amazing impression on the visitor's mind. One can be lost on his/her mind in this quiet forest where several sorts of animals are whispering. This is an ideal place for adventure and sightseeing. Those who love to connect with nature closely, need to pay a visit there on an obvious note. This 200 square kilometer forest is welcoming people from all over the world to leave their exhaustions of urban life there.

How to go

The park is not very close to the capital of Meghalaya – Shilong. It is around 135 kilometers away from Shilong. But it is well connected by roads from Shilong. By using Meghalaya transport corporation's bus, one needs to come to Tura at first from Shilong or Guwahati. From there one needs to come to Hatisia by Taxi. In Hatisia one can find the entrance of Balpakram National park. It is also important for foreign tourists to register their entry and probably spending time in the forest before entering. There are plenty of options in Hatisia and Baghmara for accommodation and these places are very close to Balpakram National Park.
