Bangladesh is one of the closest neighbors of India. Both the countries have similarities in various sectors. For these cultural ties and geographical closeness, many Indians are becoming interested in travelling to Bangladesh day by day.

To travel into Bangladesh, Indians need to obtain a visa first. - Making payment: After the online application of visa is done, fees need to be paid which varies for nationalities across the world.
- Submitting the documents to the embassy/High commission: You need to submit following documents to the high commission of Bangladesh:
- Original passport with minimum 6 months validity.
- Printed copy of the electronically submitted visa application form.
- Two recent photos
- Proof of payment
- Document supporting the purpose of visit (It varies on which type of visa is being applied for)
Time of processing: It takes at least seven working days, only journalists are an exception which may take up to one month. It is not guaranteed that the visa will be issued in a certain time. It may differ from person to person. The embassy/the high commission reserves the right to reject any application without assigning any reasons. For getting a visa, all the necessary documents should be provided in a proper way.

If you want to travel Bangladesh by Air: Hazrat Shahjalal international Airport is the biggest airport in Bangladesh and it is the gateway of the capital Dhaka. Several Airlines companies of both India and Bangladesh operate flights from this airport to Indian cities. Biman Bangladesh airlines which is the national airlines of Bangladesh also operates flights between two countries.Dhaka-Kolkata flight rout is one of the most popular routs.
If you want to travel by train: At present Maitree express runs between two countries .Dhaka and Kolkata are connected by this train service.
Stations of Maitree express: Dhaka Cantonment, Darsana, Gede and Kolkata are the stations where Maitree express stops.
Fares of the train: The fair starts from USD 12+ vat to 20 USD+Vat Additional travel tax has to be paid at the time of purchase of ticket for all classes. Children accompanied by an adult, up to the age of 5 years will be charged at 50 % of the fare for the class of travel. Tickets have to be purchased from Kolkata counter and Dhaka counter showing proper documents.
Dhaka Kolkata Bus service: There are several bus companies operating between Dhaka and Kolkata. It takes almost 12-14 hours to travel the two cities by bus. The fares are reasonable. It varies .The fare of the bus tickets ranges from 1500 BDT (1300 INR) to more than that depending on the service. Day by day tourists from India to Bangladesh are increasing as the friendship between two countries is growing. Indians visit Bangladesh not only for tourism purposes but also for Business and other purposes, Bangladesh is increasingly becoming popular to Indians for travelling.
