Location of Jaisalmer

This 'Golden City' is situated near to the border with Pakistan and near to the desert. The most famous landmark of the town is the Jaisalmer Fortress, also known as the Sonar Qila (Golden Fort). Unlike many of India's certain forts, the Jaisalmer Fort is not only a popular tourist destination. It houses stores, resorts, and old Havelis (homes) where families continue living. Jaisalmer traces its history back to the 12th century. History tells us that Rawal Jaisal, the eldest heir to the Rawal of Deoraj, crossed over to the throne of Lodurva, and a younger half-brother was crowned king. Unlike Jaipur and Jodhpur, with millions of inhabitants, Jaisalmer is a tourism city with a population of around 80,000. There is indeed a large proportion of the population only in the tourist season, four months out of the year. The rest of the time they go to work in the larger towns of Rajasthan. So you should expect to see that the people are bent on selling items to you.

Like anywhere in India, try to remain calm and not get upset, because it never helps to get angry. Bear in mind that they can also be incredibly polite, chatty, and sincerely helpful, so be optimistic while you're in town and have a good time! There's a major issue with the lack of education in Jaisalmer. Some hotel owners, too, can't even read and write and don't understand how to use a device. Many are therefore going to volunteer to support them, update their website, handle their bookings, etc. Among the most spectacular destinations seems to be the Jaisalmer Fort, even recognized as the Sonar Qila, attributable to the Yellowstone by which it was constructed.

Eat the food

Lots of nearby food shops sell sumptuous meals. Many of the hotels are targeted at western visitors, so traditional Rajasthan food can often be shockingly difficult to find! Notice that most of these costs are out of date because there has been substantial deflation in India over the last few years.

Anchal Sweet Store

On the main market. New kachori and samosa.

Artist's Hotel Restaurant

Near to the sunset biased viewpoint in the center of the Jaisalmer artist settlement. The best food in town (50Rs). It's all made new. You'll get western (also good Austrian cuisine) food as well as nice Indian dishes. The restaurant is also on the roof, and you will enjoy your meal while listening to the local performances performed by Rajasthan.

Free Tibet Restaurant

(Nearly two of the main spotters from the fort). This position has a spectacular view over the walls of the fort. The food is a mixture of Tibetan, Indian, and Continental. Inexpensive than other neighboring 'lookout' restaurants. It's family-owned. It's Rs 30-120. German Bakery, Gopa Chowk (near the gate of the fort). Nice lemon cake, please. It's decent croissants. Almond cookies, please. Delicious tea, man. Nice place to have a "western-style" breakfast. You can consume beer in numerous state-authorized "wine & beer" shops around the area. They also demand a bit of a premium, so it's easy to bargain down a little in certain cases. Jaisal Italy, Fort gate (gopa chowk), 9928592525. Outstanding Italian food for you. Pizza with high-quality mozzarella cheese. Healthy pasta, too. Incredible place of the fort from the terrace, enjoyable conventional sitting within.
