In ancient Bengal there was a place named Samata and Brahmanbaria was a part of it. The historic name of Brahmanbaria was Rong. When the Sena period was running on King Balla Sen invited a Brahmin family to come and stay in Rong because there was a shortage of Hindu priests. Again, in the 14th century, a Qadi named Syed Mahmud came to extend Islam religion to its inhabitants. The Brahmins decided to accept Islam willingly and left their positions as priests and also moved on to Nabinagar to start a new life. The area where Mohammad resided was named after him as Kazipara and his mausoleum is also found there. After that incident, Rong was named Brahmanbaria as the local dialect of the Brahmins that they left. Again, during the Mughal era, Isa Khan who was the leader of Baro-Bhuiyan made his first and temporary capital in Serail. Also at that time, Brahmanbaria was famous for producing quality clothes Muslin. When British Colonialists ruled over the subcontinent, there were three subdivisions of Comilla District, and Brahmanbaria was one of them. It was made into a subdivision in 1790 and once again, the municipality was formed in 1868.Google map: click here
