Chandpur is a district of the Chittagong Division of Bangladesh. Before, 1984, it was part of the greater Comilla District. To implement the District board Initiative, Chandpur is the first district to have mentioned. It is popularly known as the city of Hilsha. An internationally recognized artist named Mr. Hashem Khan designed the logo of this district. Its area is 1704.06 square kilometers and its population has about 2416018. It is surrounded by Lakshmipur and Barishal District at the south, Comilla District at east, Shariatpur, Munshiganj Districts, and the mighty Meghna River to the west., Comilla and a part of Munshiganj District at the north.History
Many times ago, there was a place named Narshinghopur, and the office-court of Chandpur was located at that place. The joint point of the Padma and Meghna river was 66 miles west in comparison to this time. It is thought that due to the Meghna river erosion, Nabinagar is now underwater. When Baro Bhuiya, the zamindars ruled, Chandpur was under the control of the king named Chadray who was the king of Bikrampur. He established a ruling center there. According to history, the district was named after him. Again, many thoughts are also heard regarding the naming of this district. There was a man Named Chadfokir who used to live in a village named Purindpur. Some think that the place had been named after him. There is a mosque named Firojshahi that was made by rent collector Firojkhan Loskor. Olipur village of Habiganj Upazila was the administrative secretariat of Mughal ruler Abdullah. Here are found, Alamgiri five domes mosque upon the thought of Padishah Alamgir, three domes mosque made by Shahazada Suja, and also a mausoleum of heroic commandos that are now regarded as Oli's mausoleum. In 1878, Chandpur was made into a subdivision and on 1st December of 1896, Chandpur was regarded as a municipality. Lastly, on 15th February 1984, Chadpur finally expressed itself as a district. Chandpur was included in the Smotot Kingdom in ancient Bengal. In the 7th century BC, a China pilgrim named Wan Chang came to the Somotat kingdom and from his description, proofs are justified. He described Somotat as a lower moist-ground that is also meant to Chandpur. Again, it is thought that the kings of the Pala and Sena dynasty ruled this area and especially when the whole of Bengal came under Muslim rulers. Chandpur was also under them because Sultan Fokhoruddin Mubarak Shah ruled this place. Chandpur, at first was included in Tripura district and there were four subdivisions in it.
Moreover, there were five thanas under the Chandpur subdivision. During the liberation war, there were battles against the Pakistani army from 28th March to 7th September. On 7th April, the Pakistani army, at first, threw an airforce attack on this place. On 8th September 1971, at 10 pm, Chandpur became free from the Pakistani armies, and in 1984, it was finally introduced as a district.
