National Holidays and Its Reasons

When a day is observed throughout a nation like commemorating the independence of the nation is called a national holiday. Generally, offices and other administration sectors remain closed on the day or during the days. In offices and institutions, wages are not cut from the employees' salaries. In our country, there are some specific days to have celebration as national holidays. The holidays are kept especially on the occasion of independence of a country, festivals, cultures, etc. The duration of the holidays is kept according to the importance of the event. Generally, the holidays spent in our country are mainly on festivals or cultures such as-   Shahid Dibash: Shahid Dibash is performed on 21st February every year. On this day, Bengali students gave their blood to have Bangla as their mother tongue. From that day, to remember and respect the heroic sons of our nation, the day is kept a holiday. Shadhinata Dibash: Shadhinata Dibash is performed on 26th March every year. On this day, our great leader Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibar Rahman declared the independence of our country and also encourage the Bengali people to protest against Pakistani armies. Thus, the day is kept on holiday to show respect. Pahela Boishakh: Pahela Boishakh is observed every year on the first day of the Bengali new year. The day is observed with great enjoyment. The day is kept holiday so that everyone can spend time with their family.

Durga Festival: Durga Festival is the biggest festival to Hindus. They observe and pray to goddess Durga from the core of their heart. Keeping mind the prayer, 3/4 days are kept in the list of holidays. Eid UL Fitor: Eid UL Fitor is first Eid of Muslims and they pray to God on this day. As it is related to prayer, thus official works reamin closed on this day and the day remains as holiday.


Eid UL Azha: Eid UL Azha is another Eid for Muslims to pray to God. On this day, animals are sacrificed to God in name of Him. Thus, the day is very important and kept as holiday. Bijoy Dibash: On this day, Bangladesh got their victory from Pakistani armies and the day is a memorable day for Bengali people as they had got their freedom on this day. Thus, the day is kept holiday to remember our victory. Buddho Purnima: Buddho Purnima is another holiday for us. On this day, Gautam Buddho was born. To remember this great soul's birthday, the day is kept as holiday. Janmashtami: Janmashtami is the birthday of lord Krishna. According to Puran, lord Krishma came to earth on this day and thus the day has great significance to keep holiday for Hindus. Christmas Day: Christmas day is observed every year on 25th December to remember the birth of Jesus Christ. God of Christmas religious people, Jesus Christ was born on this day and thus the day is of great importance to Christians. Thus, to pray well, the day is kept as a holiday.   There are also many holidays apart from these. Varieties of holidays are celebrated in our country to have respect or to pray or to perform a culture. Thus, holidays in our life bear great importance.
