Shaheed Jahanara Imam Memorial museum is situated in the Dhanmondi area of the capital Dhaka. It is located at Jahanara Imam's home, "Kanika" which is on the old elephant road. The Walls in the entrance are adorned with numerous letters, photographs, and pictures. In the bedroom, There is her actual furnished bed which she used. Also, Her famous spectacles can be found there. Numerous checkbooks and photographs lying around there. In this area, Jahanara Imam used to write down her feelings on the liberation war in her diary. This diary later became the famous book "Ekatturer Dinguli".Her diary is one kind of living document and proof of the liberation war of Bangladesh which happened in the year of 1971. The family of Jahanara Imam was liberal and open-minded. She attended Carmichael College in Rangpur. Later, She got herself admitted to Lady Brabourne College in the University of Calcutta. In this institution, her activism bloomed. In 1948, after the partition of the Indian subcontinent, Jahanara imam moved to Dhaka. She joined Siddheswari Girl's School as the Headmistress. She showed her great leadership qualities during her time in that school. It became one of the best schools in the country. Jahanara Imam became the editor of the woman's magazine, "Khawateen".She was one of the most prominent feminists of her time. She pursued her master's degree in the Bengali Language and Literature from the University of Dhaka in 1962. She also attended San Diego University as a Fulbright Scholar. There is a letter in the museum where she had written to her elder son to join Mukti Bahini and sacrifice his life if needed. Her elder son Shafi Imama Rumi joined the Mukti Bahini and was martyred. Rumi was captured by the Pakistani army and never returned.Address
