Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibar Rahman traveled to many foreign countries like the United Kingdom, United States to have humanitarian and development assistance and also signed many treaties. A constitution was also proclaimed in 1972. On 15th August 1975, the most heinous conspiracy to kill our great leader named Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibar Rahman was initiated. A group of junior army officers killed Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibar Rahman with his family members and kinds of stuff. After his death, our nation was submerged in the darkness. In 1977, chief Ziaur Rahman was declared president of the country. In 1978, Ziaur Rahman signed the indemnity ordinance. After that, parliament was dissolved and martial law was also initiated. Ziaur Rahman ruled till 1978 and after that vice president justice, Abdul Sattar was elected as acting president. On 24th March 1982, Army Chief of Staff Lieutenant General named Hussain Muhammad Ershad declared martial law as he had distaste with acting Sattar. He also blamed Sattar for not handling the affairs correctly and also suspended the constitution. At that time, the country was progressing at a great pace. For a time being, all political parties and trade unions were banned with the death penalty for corruption and political agitation. Moreover, his political party named Jatiya(National) party was also formed. In November 1986, his party took their seats in the national assembly. Again, there was an unstable dramatic political situation in the country. Many political parties like Jamaat-e-Islami, Awami League(AL), Bengali Nationalist party, etc formed. Again, Ershad resigned on 6th December 1990. In 1991, when an election was formed to choose a worthy government for the nation, BNP was a majority in voting and they formed the parliament. Widow of Ziaur Rahman named Khaleda Zia sat on the chair and started to rule the country. Once again, there were some allegations heard on the BNP party and Sheikh Hasina who was the daughter of Sheikh Mujibar Rahman pledged to cancel the national election that was scheduled for 15th February 1996. Thus, the parliament decided to select a new person to provide power and conduct the new parliamentary election.Written by, Sonjoy Kumer,
