Thamel is perhaps the most well-known of the tourist places in Kathmandu. This chaotic place is a commercial neighborhood. It also has a number of accommodation options for a range of budgets. Thamel is the place if you are looking for natural fabrics, clothes, colorful accessories, jewelry. Also, souvenirs such as pieces of art and unusual but very Nepalese things are available here. Kathmandu Durbar Square is an infamous UNESCO world heritage site. This place is not really a square, but a combination of a few squares around royal palaces. It is a historic part of Kathmandu not only because it houses these beautiful palaces and temples, but also this is a place where you may get to experience one of the many colorful processions through town. It was badly damaged by the 2015 Nepal earthquake of 7.3 magnitudes. Some of the buildings are badly damaged and have a lot of cracks so be respectful when you are taking pictures there. Swayambhunath is one of the top tourist attractions. It is cited as the “Monkey Temple” due to the large number of macaques roaming around. Your Kathmandu trip is incomplete without visiting the holy site which is very important if you want to witness the religious and spiritual practice of the local people. The stupa sits on top of a hill. So, you will be rewarded with great panoramic views of Kathmandu and Kathmandu Valley. This place is perfect to watch the sunset over Kathmandu.


Garden of Dreams is also a notable place to visit in Kathmandu. Located in the center of Kathmandu where you can find peace. The Garden of Dreams is modeled as a neo-classical garden and was built in 1920. If you're looking for a serene location to relax right in the eye of the storm that is Kathmandu, then the Garden of Dreams is suitable for you.

How to go:

If you are fascinated with the Himalayas and want to see Mount Everest up close you must get on an Everest flight. A 45-minute flight will take you out from Kathmandu, and over the Himalayas for scenic views of Everest. This costs 100-150 USD but sometimes the advertisements are deceiving. If you want the experience of a lifetime a helicopter ride is recommended. This might cost way more but the chopper will fly you through the Himalayan range show everything closely and will land you on glaciers for you to completely indulge in that pristine place and enjoy.
