Mawsmai Cave is located in mawsmai village at which is 57 km from Shillong and around 4 km from Cherrapunjee bustard, North East Indian state of Meghalaya.

Mawsmai Cave is a tourist spot where only a few groups were out there to explore nevertheless you can find out there an occasional café playing local Khasi music.to reach the main entrance of the cave you need to go by a short hike. This hick is beautiful for its mesmerizing views of the valley which is full of waterfalls during monsoons. You can only enjoy the beauty of 150 meters of the caves through the caves are quite long but it is not open for tourists. The opening of the cave takes a huge area but soon you will feel like you got stuck in a narrow path.

As soon as you enter the cave, you can see incessant water droplets from the cave roof and countless forms of stalactites and stalagmites. Besides, visitors can see how the cave roofs and floors combine to form iconic columns. The cave networks in Jaintia Hills which is undiscovered yet so it’s a common situation that before explores the caves explorers would think twice. However, the access to the main cave is organized safely, here one can find our safety signs as well as artificial light to see the fossils which are the pre-historic creatures preserved in time on the walls of the cave. Whenever you go inside the cave you can feel Mother Nature with her strong and bold stand also you will feel just a dot compare to this nature. You can find out various flora and fauna as well as don’t be scare to face bats inside the caves.

Visiting time:  The best time to visit this cave is post-monsoon cause in monsoon the cave is filled with water. The cave is open for visitors from 9 AM to 5 PM Recommendations:

  • It is one of the best places for adventure seekers but not advisable for kids and old age people.
  • Be prepare mentally before going inside there can be the presence of beats but they will not harm you so don’t be scare.
  • Take your own light as accidental support.
