Winter is the perfect season to enjoy the spectacular Meghalaya. The water looks completely green during the winter season. You must visit Shnongpdeng in winter. The waterfalls are less gigantic in the dry season of winter but that is a plus point because you can go closer to the waterfalls and enjoy the proper beauty up-close. Cherrapunjee is the must-visit place in Meghalaya and is most popular for rainfall. It used to be the wettest place on earth. Now the title held by Mawsynram which is just 80 kms from Cherrapunjee. Because of the high rainfall, it makes Cherrapunjee a sanctum of waterfalls. There are so many falls here to explore but the most popular ones are Nohkalikai and Seven sister falls. Mawsmai Caves, the Anthropological museum at Ramakrishna Mission, Thangkharang park, etc. has to offer some diversity to the type of sightseeing places Cherrapunjee has to offer. Nongriat near Cherrapunjee has a double-decker living root bridge and is a must-visit. Dawki is a small village near the Bangladesh border. It is quite popular for Umngot river that flows near it. If you keep going further there lies another small village Shnongpdeng which is where you can spend a night besides Umngot river. You can do Scuba diving, Snorkeling, Kayaking, Ziplining, Jumping etc. water sports in Shnongpdeng.


Mawsynram, the wettest place on earth is pretty interesting. You can visit Mawjymbuin cave and see the signboard saying the wettest place on earth. But if you go a little ahead around 15 kms from Mawsynram, you will reach Mawlyngbna village. Firstly, it has Umkakhoi which is a lake. The lake is surrounded by interesting boulders and their formations. You can also do some adventure sports such as Kayaking and Ziplining here. The famous carnivorous Pitcher plant is a common sight here. Split Rock is also a good place and you can choose the Lori-Lura trail for trekking. There are also many interesting places to visit but you must plan a long tor to cover them all. Pack your bags according to the weather and always stay hydrated while traveling.

How to go:

To reach Meghalaya you have to reach Guwahati in the Assam state of India. Guwahati has an international airport. It is well connected by road, rail, and frequent home and international flights from various parts of India and abroad. After reaching Guwahati, you can take a private cab, shared cab, or government buses to Shilong which is approximately 120 Kms and 3 hours journey. Shilong is the capital city of Meghalaya.
