Rajban Bihar is the largest monastery of the Buddhist community in Bangladesh located in the Rangamati district. It has been one of the greatest tourist attractions for local and international tourists. Rajban Bihar is also a pilgrimage site for Buddhists. Being a site with religious values Rajban Bihar also attracts nature lovers who want to have enlightenment and serenity. The monastery was built for Banabhante, the great religious philosopher and his disciple. Sadhananda Mahathera, also known as Banabhante is greatly venerable to the Buddhist community. In 1974, from the Chakma royal family, Rajmata Arati Roy and her son Barrister Debashish Roy (now Chakma king) invited Banabhante to come and stay in Rangamati. Banabhante accepted their invitation and shifted to Rangamati in 1977 and stayed there forever. The Rajban Bihar was made by many local laymen and women for him and his disciples' stay. It was made and has been renovated many times since 1974. Rajban Bihar complex is standing on 33 acres of land and is embraced by the beautiful Kaptai lake from three sides. The Bihar is made mostly in tune with the Burmese architecture. The picturesque monastery has the main Upasanalaya vihara, a two-storied residential for Banabhante and the monks at his service, a large guest house, a circular house, a boundary to secure the place, a ceremonial stage, and a seven-storied hospital.How to go
Rajban Bihar has located only 5 km from Rangamati town. So you need to reach Rangamati town first to reach your destiny. If you are starting from Dhaka, you can get several bus services from Fakirapul and Saidabad to Rangamati. There are several bus services from Dhaka- Rangamati such as Shayamoli, Unique, Hanif, S. Alam, etc. The transport fare varies from 720- 1500 tk depending on the bus company and AC or Non- AC service. In case you are starting your journey from Chittagong then you can take gatelock or direct buses from Oxygen junction in Chittagong city. Buses will be available at 120- 160 tk. Rangamati has guest houses and residential houses of all kinds. Some famous ones are Hotel Green Castle, Tourist Model, Rangdhanu Guest House, Hotel Sufia, etc. You will also get various foods within your reach as there are many restaurants available there. While you are at the Rajban Bihar make sure to not enter any places without permission and keeping up the sanctity of Bihar. You can go there with your close ones and stay there.
